[Straits Times] Cheers to training for coffee-shop beer servers

I APPLAUD Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore for its initiative to train beer servers at coffee shops to serve alcohol responsibly and to handle drunk customers better ("Coffee-shop beer servers to keep tabs on drinkers"; April 1).
I hope such training will be supported by our government agencies as coffee shops cater to the mass-market consumers of alcoholic products.
Even though coffee-shop operators and beer servers earn profits from selling such beverages, they should be more cautious when customers are rowdy or appear drunk, and advise them appropriately.
Beer servers, who are mostly female, should seek help and support from their colleagues or other customers when they cannot handle difficult customers who behave aggressively.
I hope the public will continue to exercise responsible alcohol drinking, especially in public places.
